Petroglyphs on Tokunoshima island

戸森線刻画There are several petroglyphs on Tokunoshima island. The World Heritage Tanum’s rock carvings in North Bohuslän in Sweden are from the late Bronze Age, but but the makers, the dates and the reasons for the Tokunoshima petroglyphs remain unknown. Given that they depict man-made objects such as ships and spears, but not human figures or animals, they might be from of a relatively recent period.

Through these traces, we can envisage and feel the intention and movement of these hands that created them.
